Srinagar, Feb 19 (KNO): Ganderbal Police on Thursday conducted a special enforcement drive against unregistered service providers in Sonmarg and detained 11 photographers operating without valid registration.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the drive was carried out to ensure public safety, maintain order and strengthen security measures at the tourist destination.
During the operation, 11 unregistered photographers were identified and detained under relevant provisions of Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
All the detained individuals were later produced before the Executive Magistrate, Gund, for further legal proceedings.
Police said the action was taken keeping in view the security sensitivity of the area and the need to regulate services being offered to tourists to prevent inconvenience, exploitation or any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, the police team from Police Station Sonamarg also conducted an awareness programme for service providers present in the area. They were sensitised about the code of conduct to be followed while dealing with tourists, with emphasis on professionalism, lawful operation and courteous behaviour.
Ganderbal Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and tourist-friendly environment and appealed to all service providers to obtain proper registration and strictly adhere to the law.
